Horley's double awards triumph in Bloom competition

Horley's floral delights have won it two top accolades in this year's South and South East in Bloom Awards.

Horley Town Council's chairman and mayor Richard Olliver, the chairman of its leisure committee Jack Chapman, and deputy town clerk Carol Fenton were presented with two awards on behalf of the town council in the regional awards ceremony held at Fareham Borough Council in Hampshire.

The town council won a Silver Gilt Award for the town centre for the second year and a Silver Gilt Award for Horley Recreation Ground.

The recreation ground award was made for the fourth year running.

The judges said that they “were most impressed by the passion and the drive shown by Horley Town Council in brightening up the town, particularly in these difficult financial times.”

The awards were presented by TV's Blue Peter gardener, Chris Collins.

Coun Olliver said: “I was delighted that we received these Silver Gilt Awards for the town centre and Horley Recreation Ground, and I am very pleased that we are able to maintain our high standard of floral displays for residents and visitors to enjoy.” The town council will be holding its own awards ceremony for the Horley in Bloom competition and other associated events in Regent Hall, Horley, on Friday, September 28.
