Cyclist airlifted to hospital after Smallfield head-on collision

A cyclist was airlifted to hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a traffic collision in Smallfield.

The collision happened in Redehall Road last Saturday (September 15), when the bike, being ridden by a man in his 30s, was in head-on collision with a grey Volvo estate car.

The driver, a local man aged in his 40s, was not injured.

But the cyclist was seriously hurt and the road was closed in both directions between Cross Lane and Plough Road, and diversions were put in place, while emergency services dealt with the incident. The cyclist, from South London, was airlifted to Kings College Hospital in London for treatment.

Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses to the collision, which took place near the Gunyah Stud Farm at around 11.15am.

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police's Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting incident reference P12271556.
