Earlswood McDonald's fun day raises hundreds for charity

Fundraisers at McDonald’s restaurant in Earlswood raised nearly £500 for charity throwing themselves into a family fun day.

The day, held recently at the restaurant in Horley Road, included face painting, a bouncy castle, fancy dress and a car wash.

The event was organised by Richard Francis, the restaurant’s manager, who so far this year has raised £3,460 for Ronald McDonald House Charities, McDonald’s charity of choice in the UK for 20 years.

The cause provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with seriously ill children across the UK.

The money raised from the Earlswood family fun day will go to the Brighton House, which comprises 18 en-suite bedrooms as free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for the families of children being treated at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

The Earlswood restaurant manager's fundraising this year has included a sponsored cycle ride from the restaurant to the Brighton House in April.

By the end of the year, Richard hopes to have raised £5,000 for the charity.

Jon Haward, director of Ronald McDonald House Charities, said: “As a charity, we rely on the support of McDonald’s customers and staff to continue to provide a safe and comfortable place for families to stay while their children are being treated at hospital.

“We are very grateful for the efforts made by Richard Francis and his staff to raise money for the Brighton House.”
