Police bike security stamping session success in Merstham
12:27pm Wednesday 27th June 2012 in Local News
Dozens of bike owners pedalled into Merstham to get their “wheels” protected from thieves by police.
Merstham officers carried out a free bike security marking session on The Green, close to the junction of Battlebridge Lane and Nutfield Road.
The event was held by Surrey Police in partnership with Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.
More than 40 bike owners took the chance to have their cycles security stamped for free.
Merstham Police Community Support Officer Ryan Willmott, said: “Security marking property is always a deterrent to would-be thieves, but if the item is unfortunately stolen, the chances of it being returned to you are a lot higher if it is marked.”
He said: “I would strongly urge any Merstham residents who own a bike which has not yet been security marked, to come along and join us at our next marking event.”
That will be taking place outside the RT Gallery in High Street, Merstham, on Wednesday, July 25, between 6pm and 7.30pm.
