Councillors announce Olympics drop-in sessions for Surrey

With less than 50 days to go until the start of the London Olympics and the cycling road races in Surrey, county councillors have announced a series of 2012 Games drop-in sessions.

The sessions, which are open to residents and business people from across the county, are being held to help people and businesses prepare for the Olympic events taking place locally.

Huge crowds are expected to line the route of the Olympic cycling road races, which will be starting from London but heading into Surrey and Reigate and Banstead borough to loop Box Hill a number of times on Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29.

The Olympic road cycling time trials to be held on Wednesday, August 1, are expected to be another major event drawing massive crowds into East Surrey.

Roads on the race routes will be closed on the event days in order to stage them.

Surrey County Council's cabinet member for community services and the 2012 Games, Helyn Clack, said: "We understand there will be disruption and we are working hard with everyone from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and police to local councils and emergency services to ensure the Olympic events run smoothly while keeping disruption to a minimum.”

Citing the council's drop-in sessions, she said: “"Hosting the Olympic events on our doorstep is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’d encourage residents and businesses to take advantage of these sessions and the detailed information available on gosurrey.info, so they can plan ahead and make the most of the Games."

The upcoming sessions are being held in Mole Valley.

The council has said they will provide people with detailed information about the Olympic events and give them an opportunity to speak face-to-face with staff from LOCOG, Surrey County Council and Mole Valley District Council.

The first session will be held for business people in Dorking Halls (Martineau Hall), Reigate Road, Dorking, tomorrow (Thursday, June 14) from 8am to 11am.

Another session will be held in The Hut, Furlong Road, Westcott, Dorking, on Friday (June 15) from 5pm to 8pm.

Further sessions will be held in Dorking Halls (Masonic Hall), Reigate Road, Dorking, on Thursday, June 21, from 5pm to 8pm, for businesses with advance booking required in Hersham Place Technology Park, Molesey Road, Walton-on-Thames, on June 27, from 4.30pm to 6pm, in Box Hill Village Hall, Box Hill Road, Box Hill, on June 28, from 4pm to 8pm, and in Park House, Randalls Road, Leatherhead, on July 3, from 5pm to 8pm.
