Police are hunting a burglar who carried out what they have called a “very peculiar” raid on a Redhill home.
For the culprit, who got into the house while the owners were asleep upstairs, stole just a phone and a packet of bacon.
Strangely, the burglar left a rasher of bacon over a door handle.
The raider struck at the house in the early hours of last Saturday (September 4).
A Surrey Police spokeswoman said no damage was caused to the house, but all that was stolen was a telephone from the hallway, which was later recovered, and a packet of bacon from the fridge.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Julian Knowles, said: "This is a very peculiar burglary as the suspect placed a rasher of bacon over a door handle before leaving the property.”
Det Con Knowles said: "The victims are at a loss to understand why someone would break-in to their house and steal a packet of bacon, and we are equally stumped as to who this potentially peckish suspect is.”
The suspect was described as a white man with short dark hair, and a moustache. He was wearing a dark T-shirt which had a white motif on the right shoulder, and dark trousers.
Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the burglary, which happened on September 4 between 2.50am and 3.40am.
