Horley firefighters joined colleagues from the Gatwick Airport Fire Service dealing with a gas leak after a main at the airport was ruptured.
The incident happened outside Tower Gate yesterday at 3.30pm.
During construction work, a JCB digger excavating a trench went through the main.
Both Horley fire appliances went to the scene, where workers from Transco initially carried out a temporary repair, making the area safe until a more substantial repair was made.
