Reigate and Banstead mayor Richard Mantle is under starter's orders for the big Santa Run in Priory Park, Reigate, this Sunday (December 13).
Coun Mantle is hoping as many people as possible will join him in the jaunt to raise funds for the YMCA.
The mayor came up with the idea as a novel way to raise funds for the cause, which is one of his nominated charities during his year in office.
He said: “I thought a Santa run would be a different and fun way to raise money for charity, and by taking part, you will be helping to support the valuable work the Reigate and Redhill YMCA do in the borough.”
He said: “I hope to see Priory Park filled with hundreds of Santas in what promises to be a fun event for all the family.
“All proceeds will go towards the YMCA’s important work with children and young people.”
The one mile and three mile runs will take a traffic-free route around the park, staying on gravel paths or pavements.
The fun will start at 11am from the Priory Park pavilion, where there will be free mulled wine and soft drinks for all finishers, and prizes for the fastest adult and junior Santas.
Entry will cost £10 if booked in advance, and include a Santa suit.
