Witness Service appeals for volunteers

The Witness Service at Redhill Magistrates’ Court is appealing for more volunteers.

The voluntary group looks after victims and witnesses who have been called to give evidence at a trial.

Witness Service volunteers attend court for a maximum of four days per month to give support to people involved in proceedings, with separate waiting rooms and facilities available for witnesses, and arrangements made, if required, to show people round on a separate day before the trial date.

Full training and ongoing support is provided, as well as expenses to cover costs.

The next training course will be run in Dorking next March.

For details call witness service manager Gillian Clark on 01737 768844.

The Redhill Witness Service was recently given a Reigate and Banstead Councillors’ Community Award of £500 to contribute towards training volunteers.
