Dates announced for Gatwick noise sessions

Gatwick Airport is to host its first public session on the content of its draft noise action plan next week.

Members of the public, residents and local interest groups are being invited to hear more about the detail and to ask questions on the recently launched draft noise action plan.

Two hour-long sessions will be held at the Gatwick Conference and Business Centre in Norfolk House at the South Terminal on Thursday, July 9, at 3.30pm and 7pm.

Further hour-long public sessions are scheduled to be held on Thursday , August 6, at 3.30pm and 7pm, and a final session on Thursday , September 17 , at 7pm.

Tom Denton, head of corporate responsibility and environmental strategy, said: ““We know noise is a significant issue for people living or working close to Gatwick Airport or under its flight paths.

“Limiting, and where possible reducing, the impact of noise remains our ongoing commitment.”

He said: ““These public sessions will provide an opportunity to share details of the plan and to answer questions.

“We welcome the thoughts and suggestions from a range of stakeholders to help us ensure we focus on the most appropriate long-term goals for managing noise at Gatwick Airport.”

The noise action plan will run for a five year period and will highlight the actions London Gatwick Airport will take to manage and mitigate noise arising from aircraft departing from and arriving at the airport.

The plan is in accordance with the Environmental Noise (England) Regulations 2006 and in line with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) guidance issued in March this year.

The final plan, which will take account of contributions made as a result of the public consultation, will be submitted to the Secretary of State for Transport later this year, for recommendation to DEFRA as part of the adoption process.

The plan seeks views on noise relating to Gatwick Airport’s current two-terminal, one -runway operation, and is is not a consultation about future noise or an expanded airport.

The formal public consultation will close on October 7.

People wanting to attend the public sessions should register in advance on 01293 504625.
