Horley Town Council is celebrating after receiving a grant of £10,000 from the London Marathon Charitable Trust to spend on outdoor fitness equipment.
Competition for grants supporting recreational projects from the Trust totalling £4.8 million was stiff but Horley Town Council was one of the 70 lucky recipients.
The 70 grant recipients included 56 recreational projects in London, one in South Northamptonshire, one in Aylesbury Vale and 12 in Surrey.
The Charitable Trust granted a sum of £200,000 as a reserve for major projects such as the preservation of playing fields and £1,150,000 to support Olympic Legacy projects.
Since the race began in 1981 more than £53m has been allocated to recreational projects in any area where the London Marathon Limited stages running events.
The funds will be used by the town council to create an outdoor gym at the Horley Recreation Ground with the council currently seeking estimates from contractors.
