A man was left with puncher wounds following an attempted robbery in Redhill last night.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was walking along St Anne’s Drive near the Home Cottage pub when he was approached by a man on a moped who demanded his mobile phone.

After he refused, he felt two or three punches and the man made off.

Once the robber had gone, the victim realised he had been attacked with a weapon.

He was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting with puncture wounds but these are not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect is believed to have been on a moped which had two Sainsbury’s carrier bags wrapped around the handles.

Kirsty Webb, who is investigating the incident, said: “Although the suspect has escaped empty-handed, this was a particularly violent attack which has left the victim with a number of puncture wounds.

"We are carrying out a number of enquiries in the area to identify the man responsible and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any other information which could progress our investigation, to come forward as a matter of urgency.”
