A man has been arrested after a man and woman were threatened with what is believed to be a firearm in Redhill.

The incident occurred at a private property off Brighton Road near to the BP Petrol Station at around 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon (November 29)

No-one was injured and a weapon, thought to have been used in the offence was located near to the scene.

Investigating officer Detective Constable David Fair from East Surrey CID, said: “Although the investigation into this incident is still in the early stages it is believed the victims and the offender are known to each other.

“There was a large police presence in this area of Redhill yesterday afternoon which has led to speculation throughout the neighbourhood and misreporting in the local media but I would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and we do not believe there is any further risk to the wider community.”

Officers including armed response, uniformed response, neighbourhood officers and detectives from CID attended the scene and carried out a thorough search for the offender.

A man in his 40s was arrested in Reigate at around 9am yesterday morning (November 30) on suspicion of firearms offences. The suspect remains in police custody at this time.
