More information has come to light surrounding an incident believed to involve an air rifle in Redhill.

Officers were called by hospital staff after a man presented a single chest wound believed to have been inflicted by an air weapon on the evening of Tuesday, 25 November.

The initial information suggested that the man had been assaulted in Redhill Memorial Park but it has since been established this is not the case.

Reigate and Banstead Inspector Andy Rundle, said: “The initial information we received was alarming and we felt the need to warn and inform the public about this incident. However, after a number of enquiries we have established a different course of events.

“It is believed the offence occurred in Redhill but not at the Memorial Park which was previously reported. We are still working on establishing the exact location and enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.

“I would like to reassure the community that we do not believe there is a risk to members of the public and I hope people continue to use Redhill Memorial Park.”

Due to the nature of this incident and the initial information officers received, this was a fast-moving investigation and we apologise if the initial information we released caused alarm.

Officers continue to urge anyone who has information on how the man received his injuries to contact them on 101 quoting reference P14338550.
