Two young people’s counsellors have been honoured for their work with young people.
Peter Lee, High Sheriff of Surrey, presented his youth award to Relate Mid Surrey in recognition of their work with young people helping them understand and dealing with their anger.
Group counsellor and trainers Irene and Patricia received the award at The Warwick School in Redhill.
The pair from Relate Mid Surrey has been teaching young people to understand behaviour patterns and methods of dealing successfully with angry behaviour.
Mr Lee praised the course and said: “We appreciate the work that Relate Mid Surrey is doing in equipping young people for adult life. This type of training also has a broader value in making our community safer and stronger.”
The workshop is taught to students aged 12-13 and has been running at The Warwick School since 2010. In it they go through a range of scenarios from being physically threatened by a stranger to responding to disagreements with siblings over what to watch on the TV.
Debs Burnett, Head of RE and PSHE at The Warwick School, said:”The course is very well established here and helps students understand and manage anger at an age when they really begin to need it.”
The funding for the course at The Warwick School came from the High Sheriff Youth Award fund.
Each Year in Surrey, The High Sheriff distributes more than £50,000 to projects that are actively helping reduce crime and bad behaviour.
