An East Surrey charity's volunteer team has been presented with a coveted borough award.

Reigate and Redhill YMCA's VBuddies team, who are based at the YMCA Sovereign Centre in Reigate, has received the Reigate and Banstead Mayor’s Volunteer Team Award 2014 for their service and commitment within the local community. The award was made following a nomination by Robert Thatcher, VBuddies co-ordinator of the Reigate and Redhill YMCA. The award was presented in recognition of the team’s volunteering efforts in supporting Reigate and Redhill YMCA services and activities across East Surrey, particularly with the introduction of the VBuddies Befriender Club over the past year. The VBuddies Team is around 40 members strong, all of whom regularly volunteer their time to support the clubs, schemes and services for children with a disability or additional needs which run from the Sovereign Centre in Slipshatch Road, Reigate.

Rob Thatcher said : "The VBuddies team have regularly dedicated their own time and efforts in supporting and establishing the VBuddies services as a popular and integral fixture for YMCA members each week.

“Therefore, receipt of such an award is fitting recognition for all of their hard work and loyal support.”
