Energetic members of 7th Horley Brownies stepped out recently to celebrate the centenary of the movement in style.

For the girls of the 28-strong group danced a conga around the Waitrose store in the town to both mark the 100th anniversary and complete a fundraising “Big Brownie Birthday Challenge” set them.

Their conga round the aisles was raising money in donations for the charity, Help For Heroes.

They were also joined by the mayor of Horley and town council chairman, Richard Olliver.

7th Horley Brownies Brown Owl, Anna Stone, said: “He presented each of the girls with a special 'Well Done Brownies' badge.”

The group is marking the centenary year by completing a series of adventurous and creative challenges, each linked to a milestone year in the history of one of Girlguiding’s best-known sections. The Horley pack chose a range of tasks to take on together, including abseiling, learning the phonetic alphabet, a Big Brownie birthday tea party and a circus skills day. The 7th Horley pack meets at St Francis Church in Balcombe Road and was set up 55 years ago.
