Prize-winning Hungarian tenor Gyula Rab will be joining Reigate and Redhill Choral Society for the closing concert of its 73rd season on Saturday, July 5.
The society will be presenting its Summer Classics concert at St Mary's Church in Church Lane, Reigate, at 7.30pm, with works by Vaughan Williams, Elgar and Copland included in the programme.
It will be the first time the choir has performed at St Mary's.
As well as Gyula Rab, the choir will be joined by the critically-acclaimed professional orchestra, Surrey ProMusica, which comprises of players who frequently appear with world-renowned professional London orchestras.
Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending will feature alongside Elgar’s Ave Verum, the original version of Copland’s popular ballet Appalachian Spring, and Puccini's grand opera-inspired Messa di Gloria.
The home-town concert will round off a hectic season for Reigate and Redhill Choral Society, which has included concerts in Brighton and Dorking, and a highly-successful tour of Belgium, featuring performances in The National Basilica and Brussels Cathedral.
The season has also seen the expansion of Reigate and Redhill Choral Society’s Community Development Programme supported by Legal & General and featuring 'work place' choirs from East Surrey Hospital, The Children’s Trust in Tadworth, and Legal and General’s offices at Hove and Kingswood.
The innovative programme, assisted by Legal & General, promotes the benefits of vocal health and singing to make a positive difference in the community. Music director Peter Farrant said: “Reigate and Redhill Choral Society has achieved critical acclaim and recognition for exciting, adventurous programming and creation of new opportunities for the benefit of the wider community, including development workshops, festivals, partnerships, tours, recordings and education initiatives.”
