A woman from Redhill who assaulted a member of staff in a Crawley bar has been given a 12-week curfew order.

Tracy Bresnihan, 34, unemployed, of Hanover Close, pleaded guilty when she appeared at court in Crawley on June 4.

Bresnihan was charged with racially aggravated common assault, criminal damage and resisting or obstructing a police officer in the lawful execution of his duty, following an argument with staff from the Octopus Bar on May 21.

The court heard she also broke candles in the incident.

Bresnihan was ordered by the court to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

The curfew, which will run from 8pm to 8am daily, will be monitored by an electronic tag.

Referring to this case and another incident, this time in Brighton, where a 17-year-old girl pleaded guilty to racially aggravated common assault and a separate common assault following an incident in Dyke Road, Brighton, on May 20, and who was made the subject of a six-month referral order, ordered to pay £50 compensation to a victim, £25 costs and a £15 victim surcharge, Sergeant Peter Allan of Sussex Police hate crime, said: "These sentences send out a clear signal that we will take a robust approach to those who target individuals based on their race, disability, gender identity, religion or sexual orientation.

"I hope it will encourage other victims of hate crime to report such behaviour to the police.

"Hate crime can be reported to us by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.” He said people wishing to report online can do so by completing the short form at: http://bit.ly/1fTDYJh
