Carnival time is coming to Horley
The Horley Carnival will be held on Saturday, June 7, with big crowds expected to fill the A23 Horley Recreation Ground.
Running from noon to 5pm, the free event will feature a floats procession, fun fair, fancy dress competition and arena displays.
The carnival committee has announced the theme of this year's event will be Musicals, and has called for imaginative entries into the annual procession of floats, and into the fancy dress competition, which will share the theme.
The Redhill Corps of Drums will lead the procession, as it moves through the town to the recreation ground.
The carnival committee will be hoping for a repeat of last year's event, which saw a bumper turn-out.
The Horley Carnival was revived by the town council and local groups and businesses after the success of the Queen's Jubilee Fun Day celebrations of 2012. Horley's St George's Day celebrations have also thrived in recent years, with the crowds attending recently setting another record.
This year, a children’s poster competition for the event will be judged in advance, with prizes being awarded for the posters which best advertise the carnival. Last year, stall holders were allocated positions around the ground on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested parties are being advised to contact the organisers to avoid disappointment.
