A supported-living facility in Reigate has been given a brand new look thanks to a paint donation from a nationwide mission.

Oakhill House in Chart Lane, which has operated in the local community for more than 20 years, was given the donation from the Dulux Let’s Colour Project.

The facility provides supported housing for up to ten people with mental health problems or issues with drugs or alcohol. It helps them develop the confidence and important life-skills they need to achieve their individual goals. Oakhill House was nominated for the Dulux Let's Colour Project because certain parts of it had become drab and uninspiring due to day-to-day wear and tear. Staff at Oakhill House wanted to create a more positive environment people would enjoy living in, and so five volunteers painted the interior walls with pastel shades to help create a calm and cheerful atmosphere. The paint was donated by Dulux Decorator Centres in Wimbledon as part of the company's Let’s Colour mission to add colour to people’s lives, after Les Doe, who works at the facility, nominated the project online.

Les said: “At Oakhill House we help people build their foundations for independent living, so having a welcoming atmosphere here is really important. “The pastel colours we used created a relaxing environment which should hopefully have a really positive influence on the people who live here.”

Peter Brown, store manager of Dulux Decorator Centres, said: “We are really happy to help Oakhill House because it provides essential support for vulnerable people in the local area. “We hope all the residents like their new-look accommodation so they can really feel at home.”

The Let’s Colour Project, launched in the UK in 2012, will see Dulux donating more than 60,000 litres of paint to neighbourhood spaces across the UK.

The company is also working with Groundwork, the environmental regeneration charity, to identify national colour transformation projects in need of regeneration, and to improve community cohesion by coordinating local volunteers.
