Organisers of this year's St George's Day celebrations in Horley are aiming high with plans to make this month's revels the biggest yet.

The celebrations in the town centre on Saturday, April 26, will run from 10am through to 4pm, and include live entertainment and stalls.

One of the highlights is set to be the hotly-anticipated Horley's Got Talent event. Stalls will be set up in the High Street, with pitches costing £30.

Horley Association of Traders (HATs) took over the organisation of the revels from Horley and District Chamber of Commerce three years ago, and has seen the event go from strength to strength.

Last year's drew a record turn-out - an estimated 7,000 people enjoying the sixth annual day of family fun. The figure topped the previous record crowds of 4,000 and 5,000 for the third and fifth years' revels respectively. Traders and businesses enjoyed a surge in foot-flow, 50 stalls lined the High Street and car park beyond, and the town buzzed with activity. After last year's success, the then-newly-appointed HATs chairman, Terry Chellew, said: “Our mission is clear: we want to make Horley’s St George’s Day celebrations the biggest and greatest in the South-east.” HATs was set up in 2012 to help local businesses thrive, to petition local and central government to improve business conditions for local establishments, and to hold events to attract more people to the town centre.
