A wheely good time was had by fitness lovers who mounted up for a sponsored “Spinathon” in Redhill.

The fundraisers took to the exercise bikes at Redhill's Donyngs Leisure Centre for sponsored “spins” to raise money for St Catherine's Hospice in Crawley.

With the help of professional trainers hosting every session, novices were introduced to a brand new hobby, while seasoned spinners pushed themselves that bit further for the hospice, which serves the East Surrey area.

Some spinners opted for 'disco' sessions, complete with fancy dress, glowsticks and disco music. After their sessions, spinners were presented with St Catherine's Hospice sweatbands and well-deserved refreshments.

Event organiser Michaela Clements said: "We're delighted with our first ever sponsored Spinathon. “There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day, and whether they'd had loads of previous spin experience or none at all, everyone had lots of fun."

She added: "St Catherine's has to raise £15,000 every day to keep providing free hospice care for people in Surrey and Sussex. “Events like the Spinathon are a great way for our supporters to have fun and make a real difference to the lives of our patients and their loved ones. “We're grateful to everyone who took part to help support the hospice."

St Catherine’s Hospice provides end-of-life care and support to terminally ill people and their families across East Surrey, Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex.
