A Reigate student has won an A Level award for gaining the highest marks of all the candidates who sat a board's drama exams last year.

Elanor Bond from Reigate Grammar School sat WJEC's A level Drama examinations.

Gareth Pierce, WJEC’s chief executive, congratulated her on her “tremendous” results and said Elanor's accomplishment was “an outstanding achievement and evidence of the hard work that Elanor and her teachers put into preparing for the examinations.”

Shaun Fenton, headmaster at Reigate Grammar School, said: “Elanor is a charming student and was very much admired by her peers and colleagues at Reigate Grammar School.”

He said: “Her natural talent and abilities have led her to Cambridge and I am confident that she has a glittering future ahead of her.

“Her accomplishments are always very well deserved and I am very proud of Elanor.”

Head of Drama, Sarah Branston, said: “Elanor is an outstanding pupil, currently studying Philosophy at Cambridge.”

Mrs Branston continued: “She has had a life-long passion for theatre and devised an exemplary A2 devised piece influenced by Sylvia Plath's relationships - this fused Artaudian concepts with the theatrical craftsmanship of Katie Mitchell.

“She then seamlessly performed in musical theatre, as on quarter of an ensemble in ‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.'

“A diverse practical exam as an actress and forensic textual analysis led to this top grade.” WJEC presented trophies to the top achieving students of 21 A level subjects, based on the highest UMS (Uniform Mark Scale) marks achieved in each individual subject.

WJEC is an examination awarding organisation providing educational services to schools and colleges in England and Wales.
