Two arrested after Redhill shop till snatch
2:50pm Wednesday 1st January 2014 in Local News
Two people have been arrested after a till was snatched by masked raiders from a shop in Redhill.
The theft happened at the Deli on the Hill, on the corner of Linkfield Lane and Elm Road, at around 3.45pm on Saturday, December 21.
Two people dressed in black and wearing balaclavas or masks, entered the store and snatched the till and its contents, believed to be around £200, before fleeing, getting into a car and driving off.
A Surrey Police spokeswoman said a member of staff, who was stock-taking in the shop at the time, was left upset and shaken, but was not hurt. No weapons were used during the incident.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Simon Evans, said: "I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the offence, to contact officers as a matter of urgency.”
Det Con Evans said: "The people who carried out this offence were dressed all in black, with either a balaclava or mask covering their face, and we believe they travelled to the car park at the rear of Donyngs Leisure Centre following the incident.”
He continued: “The stolen till has not yet been recovered. It may have been dumped somewhere by the offenders or someone involved in the offence may still have it.”
He added: "I believe the offenders will have carried out visits to the area prior to the offence taking place, and therefore I believe someone will have seen something which may assist with our investigation.”
A man and a woman aged in their 20s from Redhill were arrested on suspicion of robbery. They have been released on police bail until Friday, January 31, while the investigation continues.
