Body found in woodland near Earlswood
10:46am Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in Local News
Police are trying to identify a body found by a dog walker in woodland near Earlswood.
The discovery was made on Monday (September 30).
Officers were called to an area of woods at about 12.30pm.
A post mortem was carried out on the remains yesterday, but proved to be inconclusive.
As Life went to press this week, the body had not been formally identified and the death was being treated as unexplained.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Antony Archibald, said: “Since the body was discovered, detectives have been carrying out enquiries into the cause of death, and this will continue to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the death.”
Det Insp Archibald said: “At this stage in the investigation the death is being treated as unexplained and speculation around the incident is unhelpful.”
He added: “Anyone who has information which they think may help us with our enquiries is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference P13297794.”
A Surrey Police spokeswoman said a file will be prepared and passed to the coroner in due course for an inquest.
