East Surrey water bosses welcome top tap taste-test results
6:00am Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Local News
Bosses at Sutton and East Surrey Water, which serves the Life area, are celebrating the results of a blind-taste test which saw most people unable to tell the difference between local tap water and two bottled water brands.
Visitors to the recent Banstead Countryside Day popped inside the Redhill-based water company's “Taste Test” marquee to put their palates to the test.
The company invited visitors to blind-taste two well-known varieties of bottled water alongside their local tap water, and then asked them if they could tell the difference.
A Sutton and East Surrey Water spokesman said: “The majority could not identify their local tap water, and were unable to detect any significant difference between the bottled and tap waters they tasted.”
In fact, the results confirmed those of similar tastings carried out by Sutton and East Surrey Water at local shows over many years, he said.
“People are often surprised to find out that water from the tap, or a jug stored in the fridge to keep it cool, tastes just as good as bottled varieties - but is 1,000 times less expensive,” he said.
The company also handed out copies of its Draft Business Plan for the period 2015 to 2020.
It is asking customers and stakeholders to comment on its proposals, which include improvements for customers, capital expenditure and charges.
