A 20-year-old man has been charged with assault and drugs offences after an incident in Redhill town centre.
The incident, in which a police officer was assaulted, happened in Market Field Road, when officers on a routine patrol tried to carry out a stop-and-search of a man.
A police constable suffered a dislocated shoulder in the assault, which happened at about 6.15pm on Tuesday (September 17).
The PC was taken to Redhill's East Surrey Hospital for treatment. A Surrey Police spokeswoman said: “He has since been discharged and will return to duty soon.” The spokeswoman said that 20-year-old Fayne Newman, from Norholt, was charged with causing actual bodily harm and possession of a class A drug – cocaine – on Wednesday (September 18).
He was remanded in police custody to appear in court at a future date.
