Gatwick chef in global French challenge
12:33pm Monday 16th September 2013 in Local News
A Gatwick chef will be joining 120 others around the world in creating a unique French-themed week to celebrate the grape harvest in France.
Andrew Bridge, senior sous chef at the four-star Sofitel Hotel, based at Gatwick’s North Terminal, will next week be the brains behind a six-course menu designed to complement a range of French wines. At the same time, in almost 40 countries around the world, from New York to Mumbai, chefs in 120 Sofitel hotels will be doing the same in a global French Week challenge.
The week will run from next Monday (September 23) until Saturday, September 28.
Having trained in France, Andrew, 41, is hoping to combine his experience of traditional French cooking with his own unique style.
Andrew, of Hassocks, said: “It is very exciting to think that 120 other chefs around the world have been focusing on creating a menu for this special week, just as I have.
“It has taken a lot of planning, but I have really enjoyed using the skills and recipes that I learnt while training in France, and hope our customers will really enjoy this unique experience.” The French Wine Week will take place in La Brasserie restaurant in the Sofitel Hotel, and is a set six-course `menu degustation.’ During each evening, Andrew will be taking a break from the kitchen to chat with diners about the dishes.
