Break-in at Smallfield store
1:24pm Friday 15th March 2013 in Local News
Raiders broke into a shop in Smallfield in the early hours and escaped with cash and cigarettes.
The burglars broke into the Co-operative store in Redehall Road at about 12.30am this morning.
The raid came exactly a month after a similar break-in.
Police believe the thieves got in through a rear door.
A member of the public raised the alarm, calling the police on hearing the intruders causing a disturbance inside the store.
But although officers were quickly on the scene, the raiders had fled.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Audrey Cumiskey from Reigate CID, said: “I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious either around the time the offence took place or in the days prior to it being committed, to come forward with information.”
She said: “This shop was targeted exactly a month prior to this offence taking place and we are currently working with the store to try and prevent them being targeted in the future.”
Officers are investigating whether the two burglaries are linked.
Neighbourhood officers from the Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Team are helping detectives by carrying out enquiries in the local area.
Anyone with information on the break-in is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference TD/13/1201.
Alternatively, people can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
