Community and voluntary groups invited to apply to Horley grants fund

Community and voluntary groups in Horley are being invited to apply for grants from the Horley Edmonds Community Fund.

Raven Housing Trust and the Horley Evening Women’s Institute are the latest groups to be awarded grants from the fund, to go towards buying sports equipment for local young people and to be used for opportunities for local women to meet and develop new skills, respectively.

The fund was set up through the Community Foundation for Surrey, itself founded to support local community and voluntary groups, and help the most vulnerable and isolated individuals in Surrey’s communities.

It was established with a capital sum from a bequest to Horley Town Council by the late Cyril Edmonds, a well-known builder who lived in Norwood Hill. The fund provides Horley with a sustainable source of funding, making a significant contribution to the charitable needs of the community. Donations are also welcome from local residents wishing to support local community and voluntary groups.

Previous grant awards include funding for outings, support for older people and volunteer home visits for vulnerable local families.

Thanks to the Community Foundation’s donors, grant awards support a range of projects including schemes that improve community focal points, support services for disadvantaged children and families, support people with disabilities and/or mental ill health, arts and sports schemes, and environmental projects.

The next deadline for applications from local community and voluntary groups for the Horley Edmonds Community Fund is Friday, March 8.

For more details visit the Community Foundation for Surrey’s website and fill in an Expression of Interest form at: www.cfsurrey.org.uk/expression-interest-form Alternatively, people can call the Foundation’s Grants Team on 01483 409230.
