A 42-year-old man has pleaded guilty to trying to steal items from a car parked in Merstham.
Tom Jones, from Bletchingley Road in Merstham, had been charged with attempted theft from a motor vehicle.
Appearing at South East Surrey Magistrates Court in Redhill last Thursday (February 14), he pleaded guilty to the offence.
He is due to be sentenced on Thursday, March 14.
The court heard Jones had entered an insecure car parked in Dundrey Crescent on Wednesday, January 23, at about 7.45pm.
The owner of the car had called the police on seeing a man sat in the vehicle.
Local officers from the Reigate and Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team worked alongside detectives from CID to trace the man, who was identified as Jones following an identity parade, and arrested.
