Thieves steal bell weighing a quarter of a ton from Bletchingley

Thieves have stolen a bell weighing a quarter of a ton from an industrial site in Bletchingley.

The clock tower bell was taken from the site in Brewer Street between 11pm on Sunday, January 20, and 6am the following day.

The police, who are appealing for information, say they believe the bell will be used as scrap metal.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Dave Every from Reigate CID, said: "Someone, somewhere must know what happened to this bell after it was stolen, and I would appeal to anyone who believes they have information on its whereabouts to contact officers.”

Det Con Every said: "We believe the bell will be used as scrap and I would urge any dealer who is offered an item like this for sale to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference TD/13/327, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
