Reigate doctor warming up for third London Marathon

A doctor from Reigate and a key figure in local health is in training to run his third London Marathon.

Dr Joe McGilligan, 45, a doctor at a Redhill Practice, and co-chairman of Surrey’s Health and Wellbeing Board, will be taking to his heels again in the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday, April 21.

The father of three will be running to raise money for The Children’s Trust in Tadworth.

As well as raising money for the children's charity, Dr McGilligan hopes that his marathon challenge will inspire more people to get active.

Dr McGilligan said: “Getting out there and being active is a very important message - whatever your age.”

He said: “The Children’s Trust is the inspiration of how you can – not why you can’t. “Not everyone is able to run a marathon, but there are lots of different ways to keep fit, from regular walks, cycle rides or swimming.”

Dr McGilligan, who has also run in the New York Marathon in 2010, is aiming to raise £1,800 for The Children’s Trust, a national charity that provides specialist care for some of the UK’s most severely disabled children, and rehabilitation to children with an acquired brain injury.
