An eight-week long public consultation exercise has started into a raft of proposed changes to Redhill's road network.

Reigate and Banstead Borough Council has launched the consultation into the proposals which it says will form the basis of a future transport plan for the town.

The borough council has called for the transport plan to be drafted to meet the challenges and opportunities arising from the regeneration of the town centre.

The proposals include changes to a number of important junctions and roundabouts, including conversion to two-way traffic flow.

Among the roads and junctions proposed for changes are the A23 / A25 Lombard roundabout, the A23 Princess Way east of Lombard roundabout, the A23 / Sainsbury’s access and the A23 station roundabout.

Redstone Hill junction, the A23 Marketfield Way, the A23 / A25 Belfry roundabout and the A25 town centre section, which is currently one-way northbound, are also featured in the consultation, which will run until Friday, January 4.

Natalie Bramhall, borough council executive member for regeneration and property, said: “Redhill is rich in development opportunities but faces a number of transport challenges. “These proposals seek to address this and the increase in traffic expected as a result of future developments in the town centre.”

Coun Bramhall said: “We want to make it easier for people to get around by reducing congestion and providing a greater choice of routes through and around the town. “The changes will make walking, cycling and getting about by public transport quicker and easier too, as well as improving the public realm.

“We are keen to hear the views of as many people as possible who live in and around Redhill, as well as those who work in and visit the town. Please tell us what you think.”

The unmanned consultation display on the roads proposals will run at the Harlequin Theatre, Warwick Quadrant, Redhill, until Sunday, November 25.
