Reigate's "ghostly" Gatton Park spirits up Halloween tours

Brave souls young and old are being invited to tour “ghostly” Gatton Park in Reigate this Halloween to hear about its spooky side.

For Gatton Ghost Stories, guided tours of the park, will be held on Sunday, October 28, at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm.

Intrepid visitors will be able to find out about phantoms Lucy, who, according to legend, may have been responsible for the fire at the Hall in 1934, the doomed Martha, who is said to wail on her way to her hanging in the grounds, and the ghostly bride Maria Adelaide, said to haunt the Hall in search of her groom.

A visit to the Monson Cemetery is also en route.

In addition, there will be a chance for visitors to buy and decorate biscuits in spooky fashion, as well as buy refreshments available in the Hall. Tickets are priced £5 per person, with the first tour designed for younger children, but with the later tours spookier.

Gatton was enhanced in the 1760s by the famous landscaper Lancelot 'Capability' Brown and has lakes, a serpentine, woodlands and gardens created at the turn of the last century.
