Paralympic Torch to come to Redhill as part of special UK tour

The Paralympic Torch will come to Redhill later this month as part of a special UK-wide tour.

The torch will come to the town's Sainsbury's branch in Warwick Quadrant on Thursday, October 25, as part of the Sainsbury’s Paralympic Torch Experience.

The torch is travelling to 400 Sainsbury’s stores around the UK after the chain became the first ever sole sponsor of the summer's Paralympic Games.

Sainsbury’s Redhill store manager John Dowling, said: “We’ve really enjoyed playing our part in raising awareness of the London 2012 Paralympic Games in Redhill. “For our customers, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance for them to see the Torch and feel the buzz of the Paralympic Games, which we’re proud to have sponsored.”

The Torch will be at the store between 3.30pm and 5.30pm and customers will be able to hold it and take photos of it.

The Torch is one of 620 which were used in the 24-hour relay which took place from Stoke Mandeville in Aylesbury, the home of the Paralympic Movement, to the Olympic Park in Stratford, London, from August 28 to 29. Its current journey began at Sainsbury’s Bradford Upon-Avon store and will end at the retailer’s store in Lampeter, Wales, on November 1.
