Gatwick joint top West Sussex destination for lift-sharing

Gatwick Airport is currently the joint most popular destination in West Sussex for people trying to drive down their petrol costs by car sharing.

The airport has been highlighted by West Sussex County Council as the joint number one destination for its residents, along with Crawley, as part of a national campaign.

The campaign, which has designated this week through to Friday (October 5) as national Liftshare Week, is aiming to help people cut their fuel costs and carbon footprint, is designed to prove the financial and environmental benefits of car sharing, and is being backed by West Sussex County Council.

It is encouraging people to use local car sharing websites, such as westsussexcarshare.com, which matches people who share similar journeys.

The website can be used for any journey and is ideal for regular trips to work.

A West Sussex County council spokesman said 2,000 motorists in West Sussex have already signed up and agreed to share lifts, saving them up to £1,000 a year. He said Gatwick and Crawley are currently the most popular car sharing destinations in the county, with 2,500 journeys available for sharing.
