Bletchingley school's day out at the zoo

Young Drew McGlashan made a feathered friend when he and fellow Year Six pupils from The Hawthorns School in Bletchingley enjoyed a day out at the zoo.

The children travelled down to Drusillas Zoo at Alfriston in East Sussex and spent the day learning about the animals that live there.

They especially enjoyed a hands-on education session where they had a chance to get nose-to-nose with a snake and a chinchilla.

Jo Hill, head of Science at The Hawthorns, said: “The pupils had a fantastic day out and learnt lots about some very unusual animals and how they survive in the wild.

“Most children definitely preferred stroking the chinchilla rather than the snake though!”

The trip was part of a series of outings which are used to enhance the curriculum throughout the school.
