Jazz Songs of Praise in Horley

Horley Methodist Church in Victoria Road, Horley, is to host a Jazz Songs of Praise this Sunday (September 23).

The Roger Hind Jazz Quartet, an augmented choir from local churches, and guest trumpet star and BBC Songs of Praise regular Raul D'Oliveira, will perform in the concert at 6.30pm, raising money for the work of Mission Direct in Zambia, with The Fountain of Hope, a centre for ex-street children in the capital, Lusaka.

Carol Tomlinson of Horley said: “I have just come back from Zambia. I was based in Lusaka.” Ms Tomlinson said: “Whilst there I helped look after teams of folk who came out for two weeks with Mission Direct, and also worked directly with the Fountain of Hope, a facility where children who once lived on the streets now live.”

She said: “Mission Direct are building a dormitory at the centre.

“When I left the roof was on and the builders were plastering the walls, ready for the last team to paint.

“We still need some money to fit out the dormitory with bunk beds, mattresses, bedding and lockers.”

All are welcome to the Jazz Songs of Praise to help the fundraising for Mission Direct and the Fountain of Hope, and a retiring collection will be taken.
