Dame Judi's day at the races to support charity

Horse-racing fan Dame Judi Dench thrilled racegoers at Lingfield Park recently when she popped in to support one of her favourite charities – and place a flutter on her own racehorse.

The actress, who lives in East Surrey, was happy to mingle with the crowd at the racecourse to highlight the valuable work undertaken by Riding for the Disabled.

As patron of the charity, Dame Judi was supporting the East Park branch as they visited Lingfield Park to let racegoers know about their valuable work.

She took her grandson, Sam, and together they cheered on Zenarinda, the horse Dame Judi owns as part of a syndicate, and watched him pipped to the post in the last race of the evening.

Dame Judi, who lives in the area, said: “I love coming to Lingfield Park. It’s such a lovely racecourse.

“I’m delighted to come along and support RDA and the valuable work they do.”

Almost 5,000 people joined Dame Judi at the finale of Lingfield Park’s Summer Racing and Music Nights, which saw a performance from The Bootleg Beatles, and a firework display.
