Householders in Reigate are being warned not to give out home security details after a spate of bogus phone calls to residents.
The callers, who claim to be working with Surrey Police, have asked householders about their current home security and are claiming to offer a free burglar alarm or the chance to win one worth a £1,000.
Some householders have reacted quickly and informed the police when they became suspicious.
Neighbourhood Inspector, Charlotte Rimmer advises residents who are unsure if the caller is genuine to ask for a number, to call them back, and if someone comes to the door, ask for identification then contact police if they have concerns.
She said: “With your help we can stop bogus callers duping innocent householders and prevent them committing criminal activity.”
If you receive a supicious call on the phone or at a property, call Surrey Police immediately on 0845 125 2222 quoting reference P09207585.
