The Harlequin Theatre received a pleasing portrayal of Tchaikovsky's ballet The Sleeping Beauty.

From the outset classical music resounded around the theatre and although no live orchestra accompanied the ballet, The Harlequin's acoustics delivered superbly.

The first act revealed an atmospheric set that was further enhanced with excellent costume. The high standard of set design and dress continued throughout the evening.

The talented cast depicted the christening of Sleeping Beauty, Princess Aurora, and soon the story unfolds of how Fairy Carabosse, forgotten at the christening, casts a spell over the princess who will grow up, prick her finger and die.

Fortunately, the Lilac Fairy reduces her spell to an endless sleep broken only by a Prince's kiss.

Insightful miming from the performers impressed the typically enthusiastic Redhill crowd with difficult routines timed beautifully with the music, cleverly emphasising the story. The cast maintained the drama keeping the crowd's interest until the end.
