An electronics production line worker has a new career with Britain’s biggest electricity distribution company as it prepares for the transition to smart metering.
David Veysey, from Prince Albert Square, Redhill, is one of 17 new recruits taken on by UK Power Networks, which keeps the lights on across the South East, London and East Anglia.
They have just started six months’ formal core training with the company, which will be followed by a year of hands-on experience at one of its regional bases - David will be in Crawley.
Their role as “smart meter intervention specialists” will be to deal with any problems that arise during the changeover period from old meters to new.
David, 24, who also studied motor mechanics at East Surrey College, said: “I was happy to get this job. It’s a chance to improve my skills and progress up the career ladder.
"I’m also looking forward to getting back to a customer-focused role.”
