More than 500 over 55-year-olds from Reigate and Banstead are set to take part in a sporting competition organised by the UK’s largest leisure provider.

he event - Better Club Games 2014 - is being held on 17 October (10 am to 4pm) at the Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

They will compete against 16 London boroughs in a range of competitive sports, including badminton, darts, dominoes, short mat bowls, short tennis, table tennis, timed cycle. 

A timed swim competition will also be hosted at the iconic London Aquatics Centre. Better operates the Copper Box Arena and the London Aquatics Centre on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Popular TV personality and former athlete Tessa Sanderson CBE, will present the winning teams with their awards, with GLL Sport Foundation athletes Darius Knight (GB Table Tennis player), and Daniel Awde, (Commonwealth Gold Medallist 4 x 400m relay) also supporting on the day.

David Hughes, Partnership Manager at Better, said, “This annual sporting event aims to encourage our local over 55’s from Reigate and Banstead to become more active.

“But the day isn’t just a great way to highlight the benefits of staying active for longer, it is also a way for people from Reigate and Banstead and London boroughs to come together and share their love of sports. We wish our local Reigate and Banstead team the best of luck on the day!”

The other 16 teams competing against Reigate and Banstead are: Barnet, Bromley, Camden, Greenwich, Ealing, Islington, Lambeth, Hammersmith and Fulham, Hillingdon, Hackney, Merton, Tower Hamlets, Westminster, Waltham Forest and Epsom and Ewell as well as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
