A vital centre for adults with neuro-disabilities in Redhill has just completed a £3 million expansion.

Kings Lodge Centre for Complex Needs has created a new purpose-built 25-bed extension, to provide much-needed services for people with complex neuro-disabilities.

The completion of the building works after just over a year means the centre, which cares for adults with conditions such as brain injury and long-term neuro- degenerative conditions like Parkinson’s Disease, will cater for a total of 61 clients.

As well as benefiting from high-quality care and the varied active lifestyle provided at the centre, the extra capacity means new services have been also introduced for the clients.

Kings Lodge manager Colette Manning, said: “Our new extension means we have a greater capacity to meet the needs of our clients. “Now we are able to add some diversity to our complex care packages. “For example, we can now cater for more unmet needs in the region, such as clients requiring bariatric care, artificial ventilation and rehabilitation in functional skills.”

Ms Manning continued: “Our service and facilities are designed to be flexible enough to meet additional needs as we are approached.”

The other services that will directly respond to demand in the local community are respite and day care to the disabled local population, and outpatient assessments. Before the expansion, the demand for Kings Lodge would mean it did not always have capacity to meet all of the requests.

Citing the role Kings Lodge plays in the local community, Ms Manning added that the growth in business will continue to bring economic benefits to the area, from employment opportunities and contracting local tradesmen, to using local amenities for client enrichment activities.

“We provide a number of activities for clients which include regular trips out,” she said.

“These range from visits to the local pub and shopping in Redhill, to further afield, like visiting the Brighton Sea Life Centre.” Elizabeth Parker, chairman of Tandridge District Council, will officially open the centre’s new wing later this month.

Invited guests will see the range of new facilities which include a purpose-built gym, two starter flats, a functional skills kitchen and 25 fully equipped en-suite rooms. Kings Lodge is currently recruiting for nurses and carers to work with a client base that includes acquired brain injury, Huntington’s disease, Motor Neurone disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
