Two drivers were seriously injured in a head-on collision just south of Horley yesterday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision on the B2036 Balcombe Road at the junction with Fernhill Lane at 6.30pm.

A Sussex Police spokesman said the crash involved a Citroen Picasso and a Landrover Freelander which were travelling in opposite directions.

He said: “The 45-year old Horley woman driving the Picasso was taken to St Georges Hospital, South London, by road ambulance, with head and body injuries and is currently in a critical condition.

“The 50-year old Crawley Down woman driving the Freelander was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton to be treated for facial and back injuries.”

Sussex Police are asking anyone who saw what happened to contact them by calling 101, or by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Shilton.
