A team of Gatwick-based British Airways (BA) staff took the night air recently in a midnight walk to help raise awareness and vital funds for a children's charity.

The team walked ten miles in under three hours - complete with Union Jack bunny ears and skirts - to raise around £500 collectively for Chestnut Tree House.

They were taking part in this year's Night to Remember midnight walk around the streets and seafront in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

The team were bought together by BA employees Lucy Groenewoud and Clare Baker as part of their commitment to support the children’s charity.

Although the event was a women-only fundraiser, four male colleagues also did their bit for charity by volunteering to help marshal the event.

The charity walk built on several fundraising activities that BA staff have been involved with over the past three years for Chestnut Tree House, which provides specialist palliative care services to 300 children and young people with life-shortening and life-threatening illnesses in East and West Sussex and South-east Hampshire.

Clare Baker, Fleet resource planner, said: “I got involved with fundraising for Chestnut Tree House around three years ago when a friend made me aware of their amazing work in Sussex. “In that time I’ve been very lucky as I’ve received an enormous amount of support from British Airways and my colleagues, and together we’ve all really got behind fundraising activities for Chestnut Tree House.”
