British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed that the person who died after being hit by a train at Horley railway station during the week was a 28-year-old man from Redhill.

A BTP spokesman said the incident last Wednesday (May 28) had been reported to them at 5.05pm.

He said: “Officers from BTP attended the incident, alongside colleagues from Surrey Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

He said the death of the man, who has not yet been named, was not being treated as suspicious.

He said: “The man’s family have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The incident, which involved the 4.24pm service from Brighton to Bedford, caused delays of up to 60 minutes on services between Horsham, Haywards Heath and East Croydon, and affected, among other services, the Gatwick Express.
