The Redhill and Reigate Free Burma group will host a talk given by a charity chief about the cause's work in Burma next month.

Sarah Armitage, chief executive of Partners Relief, will talk about life in Burma and her organisation's work there, at the Harlequin Theatre, Warwick Quadrant, Redhill, on Wednesday, April 16.

Admission to the talk at 7.30pm will be free, with all welcome and refreshments provided.

The talk is part of the charity's 2014 national speaking tour about its work.

Partners Relief is a small charity providing emergency aid, health care, education, and training to people in Burma.

Ms Armitage has spent two years working with children who have been forced to flee the country, and she will be giving a first-hand account of life on the ground there.

The Redhill and Reigate Free Burma group is a network of local people who work to support national and global campaigns for Burma at a local level by raising awareness, and lobbying local MPs and business to take action to help bring about change. The group was formed by people in Redhill and Reigate who came together after a brutal crackdown on peaceful Buddhist monks by the Burmese military regime.

A spokesman for the group said: “We are all really looking forward to this meeting as it will be looking at the practical work being done to help people on the ground, and to hearing how we can all help.

“We do not need to feel powerless about global events. “The work of Partners Relief shows how by coming together, the people of Redhill and Reigate can make a difference getting help to people in the most remote areas of the world, leading to real change.”
